Code of Conduct

Academic Integrity and Intellectual Property

User Meeting presenters, panelists, attendees, and organizers are expected to adhere to the highest ethical standards with regard to submissions, presentations, and other representations of their work. It is the responsibility of us all to ensure the integrity of reported results and the acknowledgment of contributors, funding organizations, and institutions where the research was conducted.

Talks and posters generally represent protected intellectual work product. Screenshots, downloads, screen recordings, etc., are strictly prohibited without consent of the authors. Talk recordings by Meeting staff will always be carried out with the presenter’s prior consent. Any discussion following presentations will not be recorded to protect attendees’ privacy.

We encourage participants to take notes during the Meeting and follow up with presenters to engage in discussions about their work.

Berkeley Lab’s Commitment to Ethical Conduct and a Diverse Community

We affirm the inherent dignity in all of us and strive to maintain an environment characterized by respect, fairness and inclusion. Our valued community encompasses an array of races, creeds, and social circumstances. We recognize and cherish the richness contributed by our diversity.

As mandated by law and reaffirmed here, we will not tolerate discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, pregnancy, physical or mental disability, medical condition (cancer-related or genetic characteristics), genetic information (including family medical history), ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, citizenship, or service in the uniformed services.

The University of California’s Standards of Ethical Conduct, which apply to Berkeley Lab and thus the Molecular Foundry, can be found here.

Anti-Harassment Policy

The Molecular Foundry is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone. We do not tolerate harassment of meeting participants in any form. Meeting participants violating these rules will be expelled from the conference at the discretion of the conference organizers.

Harassment includes, but is not limited to:

  • Offensive verbal comments related to any protected class (listed above)
  • Displaying sexual images or videos during the meeting
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following
  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events
  • Unwelcome sexual attention

Berkeley Lab resources for survivors of sexual harassment and sexual violence and policies on reporting such incidents can be found here.

Dignity and respect are important tenets of public and professional discourse. We ask that meeting participants work together to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all.

Expectations

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in harassing behavior, meeting organizers retain the right to take any actions to keep the event a welcoming environment for all participants.

Reporting

If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, please report it as soon as possible. Meeting staff can be found here and identified in Zoom sessions as Co-Hosts or those with Molecular Foundry backgrounds. Harassment and other Code of Conduct violations reduce the value of our meeting for everyone. We want you to have a pleasant and productive User Meeting. You can make a report either personally or anonymously.
