Poster Slam
11:45 – 12:15 pm Pacific Time on Thursday, August 19
Open to the first 25 submissions. Each presenter will have one minute and one slide to provide a summary of your poster.
This will be a lively and fast-paced event, with a moderator keeping the slam moving forward on schedule. Presenters are encouraged to provide a preview of the most exciting, intriguing, and/or impactful points of your work, compelling audience members to visit your poster to learn more.
Presenters should create one slide that is visually informative, without a lot of text, to best support the ideas you communicate verbally. Please do not submit a standard poster condensed to the scale of a slide.
Submit one .pptx, .ppt, or .pdf file by email to Tina McCoy, tmccoy@lbl.gov, by August 12, 2021.
Interactive Poster Sessions
Session Time: 2:15 – 3:30 pm Pacific Time on Thursday, August 19
The 2021 Virtual Poster Session is an opportunity for scientists at all levels to showcase their recent work. We can accommodate up to 100 posters. Each poster requires an abstract submission. We invite individuals or small groups of co-presenters to submit one poster abstract.
Poster Session Platform: We will use Gather.Town as our poster session platform this year. This is a fun alternative that retains the ability of attendees to navigate freely among posters, joining conversations with presenters and other attendees. Posters will be grouped by facility and theme, and we will also provide a navigation guide to find specific posters of interest. Similar to an in-person poster fair, conference participants may approach and leave each poster in a staggered fashion. Presenters should be ready to deliver their poster talk many times.
Support: The User Program Office will provide support, not limited to technical challenges, and platform navigation. The conference organizers will be circulating among the poster sessions continually, and can be found in the navigation bar with the label: HELP_(Name). Poster presenters may invite a colleague or friend to observe and provide constructive feedback.
Poster Format: Each poster should be sized to be comfortably viewed from a standard computer monitor. We suggest roughly one half the text and content of a standard large-format poster. Posters will be submitted electronically prior to the Virtual Poster Session, and must contain only images, no multimedia or videos, due to the constraints of the platform.
Submit your poster file as a .pptx, .ppt, or .pdf by email to Tina McCoy, tmccoy@lbl.gov, by August 6, 2021.
Poster Competition
The poster competition is organized and judged by the User Executive Committee.
Eligibility: Students and postdocs are eligible to participate in the poster competition, as well as industry researchers who hold equivalent, non-PI positions. To be included in the competition, participants must opt in when they submit their poster abstract.
Judging: The User Executive Committee will judge the poster competition. Judges will review the summary slides prior to the live event to select poster competition finalists. During the live poster fair, the judges will meet with finalists to hear their poster talks, ask questions, and complete a poster scoring rubric.
Awards: 3-4 winners will be selected. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded during the second plenary session on August 20, 2021. Winners will receive a certificate and a $100 prize.
Poster files must be submitted by August 6 to participate in the poster competition.
